Artist Statement
During my undergraduate time at CSUF while working on a “love/hate” photography assignment, I started to work with chicken. It is not that I love or hate “chicken” as a food product or as an animal, but it was the word itself that I profoundly dislike thanks to my eldest son who loved to say “chicken nugget” randomly and completely out of context about two hundred times a day for several years.
This particular photography assignment was definitely not my most successful work of art, but it was one of the most important moments in my development as a visual artist. At this point, I started to conceptualize my thoughts, emotional distress, and most intimate feelings and transformed them into visual art projects.
My artwork, photography and printmaking became more personal, intimate, and therapeutic. My art pieces are not necessary self-portraits, but I use my personal distress, frustration, or emotional pain as an inspiration of my creativity. I consider myself a bit old fashion and hands on person, and I think this affects the type or material I use. I prefer film instead of digital photography. I enjoy being in the dark room, and the step-by-step process of printmaking.
